Many people (including us) have started if not kept up with blogging for years. Some have started their own, personal blogs; others use it to keep people up to date about their business and the trends of their industries. However, the spread of information through the blogs has started to become more noticed as far as what problems some of it could cause.
Blogging itself is harmless. It is another way human beings have found to express themselves and used to get connected to other people and communities. However, sometimes some see potential harmful information in some blogs about themselves or their company. Bloggers are facing a few of the same dangers these days. Whether it is libel, slander, copyright infringement, or defamation, bloggers have had little protection in past years.
Fret not! There is hope!
In the early months of last year, Arch Insurance Group partnered with CalSurance Associates to create a new program especially for bloggers. It is called BloggerShield. BloggerShield is an insurance program that covers bloggers for libel, slander, copyright infringement, and defamation.
Visiting the BloggerShield website, you are given the information you need as a blogger to know if your blog may be a liability and if you should look into blog insurance. They have policy options and different payment types to help you fit their program to your needs. You can find more detailed information about the program here.
An article from Insurance Journal, quotes Tom Hext, chief technology officer of CalSurance Associates and program manager for the development of BloggerShield as saying, “Bloggers are more vulnerable than ever to the threat of legal action, as evidenced by the increasing number of blog-related lawsuits. Without insurance protection, bloggers remain susceptible to the financial cost of defending lawsuits, potentially compromising their blog and their personal assets.” See the full article about BloggerShield here.
